Santiago de Compostela

Santiago de Compostela is at the end of one of the three pilgrimages in the Middle Ages. The one to Jerusalem. that to Rome. and the one to Santiago de Compostela and the tomb of St James the Apostle., (The Way of Saint James) or (El Camino de Santiago).  Santiago became the most popular object of pilgrimage of the three in the later Middle Ages from the 10th to the I 8th century.
Santiago is located in northern Spain, the region know as Galicia.  If you walked the 700 kilometers from the French border through the mountains in Spain and arrival at Santiago, it is a beautiful sight.  At Santiago de Compostela, the church is very beautiful and the area near the main church is extremely nice.  One should have to see this.  On this tour, we seen many beautiful place in northern Spain and Santiago was one of them, however; they need to do a lot more work to restore the church, both inside and out.  We had expected Santiago de Compostela to be better maintain with all of the tourist that pass through annually.  Whenever St James's day (25th July) falls on a Sunday, the cathedral declares a Holy or Jubilee Year. Holy Years fall every 6, 5, 6, and 11 years: the last ones were 1982, 1993, and 1999. Subsequent Holy Years will be 2004, 2010, 2021, 2027 and 2032.  We got back to the Hotel Santa Lucia around 10:00 PM, dinner and off to bed.
